The International Symposium on Reliability Engineering and Risk Management (ISRERM) is a significant biennial international conference that serves as a pivotal platform for the exchange of knowledge and innovative applications in the fields of reliability-based, risk-based, and uncertainty-informed decision-making. Its primary focus lies in addressing safety-related aspects throughout the entire lifecycle of engineering systems.

Over the years, ISRERM has garnered international recognition, with a rich history of hosting conferences at esteemed institutions worldwide. Past symposiums have been hosted at prestigious locations such as Tongji University, Shanghai, China (2008, 2010), Kanagawa University, Yokohama, Japan (2012), Taiwan University of Science & Technology, Chinese Taipei (2014), Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea (2016), National University of Singapore, Singapore (2018), Beijing University of Technology, China (2020), and Leibniz University Hannover, Germany (2022). It is with great excitement that we announce the forthcoming 9th ISRERM, scheduled to be held at Hefei University of Technology, China, from October 18th to 21st, 2024.

ISRERM serves as a platform fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on reliability assessment, risk and uncertainty quantification, mitigation, and management, as well as effective decision-making strategies.Our primary objective is to bridge the knowledge gaps among perse disciplines grappling with similar challenges. This synergy encourages the exchange of insights into contemporary and emerging developments, propelling us closer to innovative solutions through cross-pollination of intellectual ideas.Our aspiration is that this conference, alongside subsequent publications, will help translate scholarly discourse into robust frameworks for addressing emerging reliability and risk management. Moreover, it aims to cultivate the leadership and initiative necessary to respond effectively to both national and international disasters.

As organizers, we eagerly anticipate the vibrant exchange of ideas and visions, all within the framework of our broad thematic coverage. We look forward to welcoming scholars from across the globe to ISRERM 2024, where the pursuit of knowledge and the quest for innovative solutions will be at the forefront of our endeavors.

The 9th International Symposium on Reliability Engineering and Risk Management (ISRERM) is organized by Hefei University of Technology and Tongji University, and supported by the International Joint Research Center for Engineering Reliability and Stochastic Mechanics (CERSM), the European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA), the Risk and Resilience Measurements Committee of the ASCE Infrastructure Resilience Division, the Safety Engineering & Risk Analysis Division of  ASME (SERAD), Leibniz University Hannover, the Institute for Risk and Reliability, the Liverpool Institute for Risk and Uncertainty, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) and University of Lille.
